WHEN TO SCHEDULE
The best time to contact me for a newborn session is before you have your baby. I will then add you to my calendar around your expected due date and send newborn session details. Once your baby arrives, please email me and I’ll find a date for you to come to my studio. I prefer to do newborn sessions around days 5-10 depending on the weight of baby, so it’s important to email after delivery. The first two weeks is when your baby sleeps best and still curls up as if they were still in womb. But do not worry if baby is already beyond the 2 week mark, babies become more alert and interactive which is one advantage of 2-4 week babies. You can get some nice shots of eyes wide open, lovingly looking mom and dad! We can discuss all of this at your pre-consultation meeting where we customize your session together.
YOUR SESSION PREPARATION
Newborns seem to be sleepiest in the morning. If you can keep your newborn up a minimum of 2 hours before coming, this is best for a sleepier session. We will do our best to get those beautiful images and poses of sleeping baby but this all depends on preparation before session and baby that day. The sleepier your newborn the more set-ups and sweet sleepy baby poses we can get while they peacefully sleep!
If you have a long drive to the studio then do a small feeding and then finish off here at the studio. I am a big advocate of breastfeeding and we build in time for you to feed here at studio. If you are using a bottle bring that along with a binkie, that generally helps greatly to keep the session moving along peacefully as well. I also have a list of what not to eat starting the few days before the session to avoid any gassy babies. Makes a huge difference for the session and life with a new baby for Mom and Dad!
